Title: Standard sizes for external speaker cabinets

What sizes (Length, Height and Width) are standard sizes for speaker cabinets to fit 10" and 12" speakers for the common amp lines (Fender, Marshall, Vox)?

The related question would be What are the standard sizes for head boxes for common amps?

In the past, I've made cabinets to match the heads that I've built, but I'd like to make them so that they'll have a more universal fit.

Also, I'd assume that the standard sizes are optimized for tone.

No, that's "how to size a cab".

PRNDL wants to know "standard Big-Name sizes". A question that I suspect The Forum could collectively answer, if everybody measured all their gear.

I would suspect they are optimized to make the most of a standard sheet of plywood.

(I know I once made horns 19.125", because you get five good cuts in 96".)

And "optimized" so that the $599 rig looks more impressive than the $499 rig. Even when they are the same amp and speakers but a few more frill-knobs.

There isn't a LOT of wiggle-room. Maximum efficiency needs Frontal Area. Depth has uses, but traveling amps have to fit in the Econoline. And a depth which is not too tipsy is a reasonable compromise between back-volume and truck-space.

Of course "not a LOT of wiggle-room" still leaves you a inch long with head A, 2 inches short under head B. Given a choice of "standard", I guess wider cab is better so the head does not stick off the sides. But that's awkward when a client has a compact head and a Yaris hatchback.

I checked on Ted Weber's web site and got these sizes

1x10   13" x 13" x 13"
1x12   15" x 15" x 13"
2x10   13" x 24" x 13"
2x12   15" x 28" x 13"

I'd have to go measure to make sure, but my Laney 412 is 29.5" wide... 14" deep, and about 29.5 high.
