A friend gave me a brand new in the box Genz-Benz 15 inch ceramic speaker made by Eminence yesterday. I have no idea what this speaker was designed for. It has no watt rating on it, only 4 ohms and it is very light for a 15. Anyone ever hear these speakers and if so are they practical for guitar?

From what I know, G/B caters mostly to bass guitar. See if one of your friends has a 'woofer tester' and check the Thiel-Small parameters. That is the only way short of using a full-blown speaker measurement system like Sound-Easy CLIO or LMS.

I've seen Genz Benz guitar amps... those are pretty much high-gain hybrid type things (read: not all tube, SS in the signal path)
as far as the speaker, IDK.

solid state = power to burn ~> low efficiency speaker

I *think* the SS was in the preamp, and not the power amp... (Also thought I had some Schems for one, but nope, just some for Hughes & Kettner)
Their El Diablo 100
• Two Independent Tube Channels
• Six Triode Preamp Stages (3-12AX7 Tubes)
• Four Power Tubes (ships w/Ruby Tube EL 34's)
• EL34 or 6L6 Power Tube Capability
• Rear Panel Bias Pot
lit. even says 5881s (guess using 6L6 settings)
Black Pearl is meticulously designed with an all-tube signal path
• Class A, EL 84 Power Tubes
• All-Tube Signal Path
• Flexible Power Selections-Pentode/Triode Selector 30 Watts/15 Watts/8 Watts
• Tube Boost Preamp Stage (Footswitchable)
• Tube-Driven Reverb
• Tube Rectifier
"Class A EL84" outputs on that Black Pearl sound like the marketing team at work again... based off someone's LACK of knowledge on self-baised tubes, or someone's lack of understanding when it was told to them.
Lookin at their site, they cover Bass, Acoustic, and Guitar... it's apparently a Kaman brand.
Bass & Acoustic look to be all SS.
Also can't find any of their 15" speakers rated 4-Ohm (unless it has more than one speaker in a cab.)
