Title: Wiring Resistrance possibilities of 8 ohm and 16 ohm speakers?
Post by: jerryjg on June 24, 2009, 01:55:54 pm
What are the possibilities for total  resistance ohms of a 4x12 cabinet with;

Four 8 Ohm speakers?
Four 16 Ohm speakers?

Thanks you.

8-ohm speakers... all in series 4x8 = 32-Ohm, all in parallel 1/(4/8)= 2-Ohm... Series-Parallel (8/2)*2 or (8*2)/2 = 8-Ohm

16-Ohm speakers (same principle)... Series = 64-Ohm, parallel = 4-ohm, series-parallel = 16-Ohm.

not asked for but.... 4-ohm speakers... Series = 16-Ohm, Parallel =  1-Ohm, Series-Parallel = 4-ohm.

Note: best to keep even count on speakers, and split them evenly in the series-parallel network. (probably a DUH statement.)
