Title: Jeff Beck - Performing This Week: Live at Ronnie Scott's
Post by: Fresh_Start on June 26, 2009, 01:17:38 pm
WOW!  I couldn't find the CD locally after reading a review in "Vintage Guitar" which raved about it, so had to order it.  They didn't say enough IMHO!

Check this out:  Big Block (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdX6ly6ftUM)

I've been out of town 3 out of the past 4 weeks helping out my Mom when she was ill.  While I was away, my wife was nice enough to record this performance on "Paladium HD".  Just watched parts of it and was blown away by Beck's versatility, inventiveness, and complete control of his instrument.  The video includes several tunes with guests that weren't on the CD:  Eric Clapton, Joss Stone & Imogen Heap (?).  Looks like those tunes are all on the DVD version.  Frankly, Joss Stone was unispiring and Beck was simply better than Clapton for me.

The live version of "Cause We Ended As Lovers" is fantastic, including an awesome bass solo by Tal Wilkenfeld but I couldn't find online video of it (sorry Doug ;) ).

Anyway, for all you folks with a DVR, you owe it to yourself to record this performance whenever you get a chance :D

BTW does anybody know what kind of nut Beck is using on his strat?  It's a scalloped metal thing.  Some version of Buzz Feintin (sp?) nut maybe?

I notice you aren't saying anything bad about Imogen Heap - which is good, as in Gabe's World of Fantasy and Delusion she is my wife.  I love her so.

The nut on his signature Strats is a Fender LSR roller nut (http://www.fender.com/products//search.php?partno=0990812000).  Probably available at your local neighborhood guitar shop.

Also, the whole show is up on YouTube.  Nadia (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzGLa29-JdQ) is my favorite.

I just watched the Imogen Heap bit again, and noticed the nut on his guitar is one of the older Wilkinson roller nuts.  Good luck finding one of those these days - I sold the one I had in the shop for the last ten years a few weeks ago.

I had never heard of Miss Heap before and had only seen the first tune she sang on when I started this thread.  The second to last tune on the DVD "Rollin' and Tumblin'" is wonderful as a whole and Imogen contributes a lot to the energy.  She seems much more in tune with Beck & the band than Ms. Stone(r).

Gabe, I have to ask a serious question though:  are you tall enough for Imogen?  Beck isn't short, but she's 6' tall!

Cheers,

Chip

I adore tall women!

Of course, I also adore short women.  And most women in between as well.

I guess I just adore women.   :angel

But in particular, I have a thing for woman who can sing, write, play, and in all ways be amazingly musical.  Imogen is all of those things in spades.  I actually have a big thing for female bass players, so one would expect that my main focus on that stage would be Tal Wilkenfeld, but Imogen just has a special place in my heart.  It's the songs she writes, I think.

Nice, always fun watching Beck cavort and make rude noises.
Love his bass player, what a cutie.

JB stands head & shoulders above his contemporaries (Page, Clapton).....his ability to make music all over the guitar neck is amazing!
Plus, he looks better (more "well preserved") than those guys, too!
