Title: That's The Way It Is..............
Post by: madison on July 18, 2009, 10:34:57 am
RIP Walter Cronkite.
This man's voice was something so very real.Maybe something that will never be known again.
From JFK's death, to the Apollo voyages, though out the 70's, and beyond......(Eric Sevareid anyone?......used to scare the shit out of me as a kid)

Ok, I was born in '68......anyway....

Moreover Walter, a real human being in the media.
Making a bold statement; a man that could have easily been President.
For those who remember him with our evening news........he will be missed.

Walter was a class act, probably one of the last of his kind. I remember as a kid seeing him on the ground in Vietnam and in so many other places. The world lost a good one and thats the way it is. RIP Walter.  :angel

Dyna

I was still pretty young when he stepped down from the anchor chair.....I do have a few memories...certainly he's the standard.  I know from my Linguistics studies that variations of his name have become words for news broadcaster in some languages.  I remember in the Netherlands, anchors were called Kronkiters (sp?) or something like that...that right there says it all!

His passing is like another chunk removed for me. WE have no one really who was capable of connecting with the viewer as he did and report the news yet show feeling whether is was good or bad news .

We had three networks to choose from now we have what seems like millions of useless selections with hair do talking heads and in 24/7 cycles can't get as much out worth while as he did  in 20 minutes.

Well said.. I agree, to many news readers and no real anchor material that care about the story.

I believe Walter was one of the last to give us thruthful news, unlike the replacements that have come down the pipeline adding as much spin as they can get away with just because they either support or disapproves of someone or something.

RIP, sir. You lived a full 92 yrs.

Man, did you nail that comparison or what!!

I think Walter Cronkite had integrity in what he reported. I really liked him.

With respect, Tubenit

 No , but I've read a bit about him and it's probably best to leave my opinion on him unsaid

Yeah the hardest part is those folks that was a part of your life everyday growing up and they are all going switftly (or already gone) leaving you with strangers filling their shoes. It's very much a reminder that I'm getting older and older which is fine because at least I'm getting wiser as my body slips away, har!

yeah, thanks for the reminder Plate!  :embarrassed:

I wouldn't want to go back and start over again, but I would like to start at about 40 again.

Cronkite's politics were as dear to him as mine are to me. Of course, I wasn't the 'Most Trusted Man In America'. Not in a position of such influence.
