Title: Locating tilt-back legs for S.R.
Post by: Fresh_Start on July 26, 2009, 08:08:24 pm
The search function didn't turn up what I need to know:  how do I determine where to mount the tilt-back legs on a Super Reverb cabinet?  Also, what do I use to attach them?  Just a simple bolt through the side of the cab?  Seems like a big washer between the leg and the cab would be a good idea.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

I don't know about the 'where to mount' part, but Antique Electronics (http://www.tubesandmore.com/) has the legs and mounting hardware together.  Just put 'legs' in the search block at the top of their page.  They're listed right after the Tina Turner entry.

Tina Turner ought to be listed in Wikipedia under "hot legs"!

I've got the legs - just don't know where to drill the holes.

Cheers,

Well if there's one handy you could check at GC for actual placement with tape measure in hand (but if memory serves that might not be easy for you?). Or you can eyeball it off the photo from Fender, it looks like the bottom of the leg was just above the metal corner. I installed a pair on a crate club amp and I got it wrong and it didn't lean back far enough, it did but just barely. The important part is the stop where the leg rest against. Find where you want to mount it, mount it and then lean it back where you want it and put the stop at that point. Just an idea.

Thanks Dyna!  I didn't realize there was a current Super Reverb so off to G.C. I go with tape measure in hand!

After further research, I got the critical measurements:

Pivot 2-1/4" from back (3/16" hole)
Stop 2-1/2" forward of pivot and 1-1/2" higher than pivot (1/8" hole)

On the actual BF Super Reverb I was copying, the pivot is located 7" down from the top of the cab.  However, the bottom of the leg on my clone would not have cleared the bottom corner protector so I moved the pivot up just enough to clear it.

BTW the pivot/stop location and relationships were confirmed in two separate internet posts on completely unrelated forums (one in inches and the other in millimeters).

Hope this helps someone else avoid the lengthy search I had to do!

Yep!  All nuts, bolts & washers included.  Work like a champ.
