I just got a used SG Special and I decided to listen to it for a while before upgrading. This thing screams and I like it. Some nasty but very controllable feedback.
Here is the question. I usually upgrade capacitors and get very nice sounds by doing so, including very pleasant roll off. Am I missing something that a cheap ceramic will give? Is the ceramic cap lending something to the "losseness" of the sound?
If you don't believe in capacitors affecting the sound...no need to reply. Were on a different page.

In my limited experience, upgrading from ceramic to some kind of film cap makes a noticeable difference in tone. I like the change - smoother & less brittle/harsh? However, I don't hear any difference between a green Rat Shack chiclet and an Orange Drop provided they really are the same value capacitance wise.
If you like the nastiness of the SG, I'd just leave it alone. Or experiment away and save the original cap...
Cheers,
