I have a Tradition Jazz box about 3.5 inches deep that I sanded off the front and nitro finished, nice ebony tail piece (china $12 ebay) and ebony bridge. I like the sound so much acoustically...what are some good pick ups that don't "color" the sound too much.

Bartolini used to make a great suspended pickup (it hung of the end of the fingerboard). I'm assuming you don't have holes in the top here. If you already have holes for humbuckers, see if you can find some of the older style Bartolini humbuckers (the black ones, not the ones with metal covers). The will still make any of the old style guitar pickups, but they are custom order now and you will have to wait 6 months or so (still, they are worth it.) I'd go with a TA (that's Tuck Andress, of Tuck and Patti fame), but that's just me. You could also try a Seymour Duncan Jazz, but for the supper clean thing, I think the Bartolini is the better choice.

If you can find an Ultrasonic Ref 5 or 6 (West German) they are very "HI-Fi". I put one in the neck position on my Ibanez Artcore and it made it into a new guitar- very quiet, no string pull, very natural sounding. I think they were designed by Bill Lawrence..

I put Kent Armstrong floater on an old SS Stewart. Sounded just great - a warm jazz tone.
