Title: Epiphone Les Paul Ulta
Post by: duke of earl on September 23, 2009, 08:13:40 pm
I'v owned one of these for a while now and am sick of the cheap hardware so it's time for a change. I put a bone nut on it and just ordered a Gotoh Tune-a-matic bridge and tailpiece. The epi bridge and tailpiece absolutely suck. Anyone upgraded their Epi and been satisfied with the results?

The new Gotoh set came today and I put it on the ole Les Paul. There is still this terrible tinny buzz on the b and g string near the bridge. This is why I replaced it to begin with. I need to file the saddles to match the strings before I trashtalk it too much so we'll see what happens. Definitely looks good though!

Once upon a time, I worked at the Epiphone and Gibson plants in Nashville.

Anyone upgraded their Epi and been satisfied with the results?

Epihpone used maybe 8-10 different korean factories when I was there, plus a couple of chinese ones (for ultra-cheap guitars). The quality of the finished guitars was very dependant on which factory made the guitar. A couple of the factories produced quite good guitars, a few produced garbage.

It was a common thing for the guys that worked there to buy an Epi from a good factory, and then replace the hardware and pickups with Gibson stuff.
