Title: tubeswell's pot taper resistor spreadsheet calculator
Post by: tubeswell on December 20, 2009, 10:15:37 am
I did the original a few years back to help me see the effect of tapering resistors on linear pots. But this version is condensed down for easy downloading.

You enter the values (in ohms) of the pot and resistor on the part of the spreadsheet that is highlighted in bold text, and the spreadsheet does the rest automatically. Then if you want, you can graph the results

Its not a hard spreadsheet to make but if you want to play around with what I did help yourself

FWIW, if you are concerned about the effect of the 'leftover' linear end of the pot, (i.e. the end which hasn't been bypassed) you can either choose to ignore it (it is just series resistance after all), or bypass it with a largish (.1uF - .47uF cap).

As recommended by sluckey on another post, the file is declined with a '.pdf' so I could break the rules and upload it here. When you download it, you have to change that (back) to '.xls' for the spreadsheet to work (in MS Excel)

Criticism welcomed (but not too much of it  )

Nice! Thanks.

I like how the dial goes up to 11+
