Does any body here have experience with speakers from the Celestion G12H30 55Hz bass cone family?
This means vintage Celestions with the 014 pulsonic cone and various copies such as:
Weber C1230 55Hz
Scumback H55
Warehouse Speaker Reaper 55Hz
Austin Speaker Works KTS-60
Celestion G12H30 Heritage.
Anybody heard any of those?
Thanks.

I have 3 of them in an old 68' slant cabinet. Originals are ridiculously expensive. Most golden-eared folks say the scumbacks are very close. Webers are said to be close enough. You can spec "pre-rola doping" as well. I want to try the Warehouse. I have heard good things about them and the price is right. The Celestion sounds nothing like the original and requires way too much break-in. KTS-60? Don't know!

I have tried Weber C1230 55Hz - no comparison - at all - to a G12H30 55Hz. Not at all. So much different I emailed TW a few times and asked about it. Never got any response. Odd, as it was quick email response bvefore I bought the product. I heard that he could get very defensive about his stuff. RIP.

Didn't legend say that Hendrix used 55hz cones?

I guess that's why they are so expensive. They do sound good. I hate say that they live up to their reputation but they might. I need the 4th one to complete my cab but 2 kids in college. Not gonna happen!
Tubes - What did you do re: that Weber? I will probably buy a Scumback to complete my 4 x 12 (at some point) but they aren't exactly cheap either.

I sold the weber on ebay.
Another interesting speaker are the mojo speakers. I heard one in a swart atomic space tone. I really liked it. It was great on its own, but got a little lost in a band. We worth listening too though, and a pretty decent price.

Thanks Tubey! Good to know.

Woah, 4 days of nothing then--BAM!--five replies. Thanks
Tubesornothing could you be a little more specific about what you didn't like about the Weber C1230-55. How long ago did you have it? Did you have the pre-Rola treatment?
I know Weber builds the Scumbacks, but I think the Scumback uses a different spider--the suspension is different.
More questions:
Are you guys single coil pickup users? From what I've heard the 75Hz cones sound better with humbuckers and the 55Hz cones sound better with single coils.
Also people say the 55Hz speakers are bassier than the 75Hz. But from what I've heard, the 55Hz cones just deal better with the low end, and since the resonant peak of the 55Hz cone is much lower than the low E string frequency, the 55Hz cone actually sounds less boomy than the 75. Do you guys agree?
I'm looking for speakers to get me near the following:
Deep Purple - Made in Japan
Cream - Fresh Cream
Hendrix - Band of Gypsys
Free - Kossoff's bluesy tone
Thanks

Single coils for the most part. I agree that they deal with the E string better. Maybe more articulate on the bottom. I use them for pretty much everything. 6V6/plexi/MIM strat/2x12 G12-30H for classic rock and heavier blues. A/B/Y'd to AB763 single channel reverb/MIM strat/1x15 Altec 418 cab for the cleaner stuff. That covers everything except the really high gain stuff. Lots of bottom with both.
