Title: Tube diagrams, line art or drawings...
Post by: TubeGeek on January 17, 2010, 11:10:13 pm
I met a guy in my neighbourhood that has a very cool metal fab shop with a plasma cutting/cnc machine and now I'd like to cut out some wall art for my workspace and around the house.  I have options of pretty much any metal I want to use.  I will need to find a place where I can purchase 4'x8' sheets of metal. I have to decide on metal too, I'm considering copper, stainless steel, black iron or aluminum.

The machine uses corel draw in .dxf file format.

I'd like to find drawings or outlines of a stratocaster, les paul, SG, drumset, sm58 microphone or Neumann U87, Telefunken 251 or RCA ribbon microphone, some vacuum tube outlines would be neat too.

While surfing the net, has anyone seen any drawings/line art/ outlines like this on the net?  I am not even sure what they would be called.

I've been searching or googling with not much result.  Maybe I am gonna have to learn how to create my own traces.  If I do, I am thinking of printing out some actual photo's of what I want and then tracing them onto white paper so I can import them into a program that will then be able to convert the file to a .dxf.

This is turning into another mini-project!  Why does it seem that everything becomes a project LOL

Corel should be able to import other formats and then save as .dxf?

Maybe you could just use a photo in your favorite drawing software.
create another layer
outline the shape of an object
export and use that layer?

Yeah that is what I was thinking of trying.

I'm not sure how to create another layer and then outline a picture...it shouldn't be too hard to figure out.  I have photoshop and I'm sure it will do this.

I am not familiar with photoshop, but Paint shop pro does the outline thing as one of the many effects you can pick to do on an image.

Creating another layer is easy also.

It should be easy to do in Photoshop, just takes an hour of reading the help file.

Search for "strat dxf file" or "tele dxf file"  etc.  This will get you a outlines that can be used for CNC work.  Also put up a posting at CNCZone.com  perhaps in the DIY Woodworking sub-forum.  Lots of guys post their dxf files.
