Title: Old GE 85W Solder Iron
Post by: plexi50 on January 19, 2010, 01:46:18 pm
Some one brought this to me and said have a solder iron. I said H**l yeah! It's got to be from the 50's or early 60's

Had to put a new cord on it but it works and does solder and tack to a chassis without the solder getting cold or lumpy

I love this old stuff /

We bought one essentially just like that, even the funky cloth cord, in the 1990s. Except that one was 150 Watts. (There's a piece of a Steinway that gets soldered, and might need replacing after 50-100 years.) But it wasn't GE branded.

Im quessing at it's age but the old metal plug itself is all rusted out and the cord is crumbling to dust. Even the cloth is turning to dust /

Rated at 85 watts at 115 volts AC.
