i collect them. but i also try to refurbish and repair them if needed. and i use them, mainly in theatre. so i want them all to be functional.
the repair and modification of two Sennheiser MD421's: http://s119.photobucket.com/albums/o153/siceffects/MD421/
one was just really rusty, dirty, dented and had dual impedance. so i refurbished it and modded it to balanced output. the other one had some dents too and a big tuchel connector. i modded it to xlr.
and this is most of my collection:

Wow, those are cool.
The pictures may choke a slow connection.

OMG, I have never seen an E-V 635!
My toolchest was full of 635as for decades, but I never saw its daddy.
You know that one or two of those other mikes are modestly Valuable? Sure, most of them are crate-fill which would get no bids at $2, but the AKG is a workhorse and that Sony is well-known though maybe not beloved.
You should also print a picture-sheet and send it to Props Dept at local theaters. They occasionally rent mikes as props. I had that Turner, the theater borrowed it for a production.
-
i do know some of those are valuable ;-) the most pricey is the Sennheiser MD441. it sounds great, is still in production and costs about 700 euros new here. in belgian theatre everybody kinda knows each other (small country) and since i work as a tech in theatre a lot of people know i have these. so they get used quite often.
and PRR, i can't find much info about that 635. it looks very much like a model 630 so that's what i assume is closest to it sonically.
-
Is that a gold plated 57? Cool.
-
> gold plated 57? Cool.
Several of the Standard Mikes are factory-option in white or gold. Some churches prefer that.
-
it's a dynacord version of the shure 545, it predated the SM57. unfortunatly the capsule is broken. so i'm trying to find a new capsule that isn't a 57

I had an Electrovioce I bought in 1949. Gave it away a few years back. Not likely old enough to be anything special.
That's really a cool collection Birt !

OK, that thing looks familiar as hell - what the heck is it? I'm sure I've used one at some point, but I just can't place it!

it's a B&O ribbon. all current Royers look like the old B&O's but are different circuitwise.

What's the story about that "Made in Japan" model that looks like the Astatic 77
It looks great! How's it sound? Is it a cardioid dynamic or something else?
I love the look of the Astatic 77 and Shure 55. I recently picked up a Shure 55 but am always looking for mics in that style. I've recently gotten in a habit of searching for old Turner microphones since they look cool and were once made in the same state that I live.

It's a Hi-Mike. a very cheap japanese mic. it's one of the many old japanes brands that made the same mic models. Lafayette, Hi-Mike, Calrad, herald, Crown, Argonne....
it's a VERY simple cardioid dynamic element that doesn't sound that good and has no shock mounting or popfilter. but it looks cool and it works :p
My favourite brands (for the design) are Turner, Shure and Electro-voice. they have made some fantastic looking mics.
i recently got some new ones but i also got bad luck on ebay twice. one mic was paid for but never sent to me and one came in and fell apart (even the capsule)

I got a chubby looking at those, My father in law is James Huhart, he was the Bass player for sinatra among many many other and one day at his house in the studio I asked him if he had any cool mics, went to the darwer and pulled our an RCA44 and numerous Telfunkin, you name it, as a studio tech I wish I had some cool stuff.
-
i wish i had some too :p
most of what i have looks cool but isn't really usefull. an RCA44 is usefull but also way too expensive for me.

W0w, nice collection. I have a 1947 Shure (Elvis Style) mike lying around here somplace, but I don't think it's worknig.
