I was at a garage-sale and came away with an AMP crimp-tool 45099.

I thought it did spade-crimps, but instead it crimps those pin/socket things you insert in DB-9 etc connectors.
Is it any use to me? To anybody? Aircraft mechanics?

It's a very good (and expensive) one trick pony. We have about a half dozen of those for different size pins at the radar site. It's always confusing which tool for which pin. Thankfully we rarely need to make or repair cables these days. Might be worth some ebay research.

Hey! I worked @ the factory that built that (way back in the early 80's)....hand crafted in Mount Sidney, Virginia!
They just closed the plant ~~ a month ago....all crimping hand tools are now "crafted" in China..... :cry:

Maybe this would be a good time for me to state how much I despise the Tyco/AMP website and their part numbering system.

I'm not thrilled neither.
This tool is superceded.... but they won't say what the new number is. The user manual they cite covers 45098 and some others, but not the 45099. If I needed a tool, their site is pretty useless.
But I got this tool, at very much less than the going price. I don't expect I will ever use it as a crimper, and it isn't a very good hammer. So anybody needs a 45099, talk to me.

We used that style for avionics.. as I remember, there were a bunch of types for various connector pins. The tools from Amp are big bucks. My "T" head luggers were a bit over $650. a few years ago. They are for the red and blue lugs. I have one for the yellow lugs also, for #10 wire etc.
Maybe that one could be converted ?
