what would it take to convert a 6L6 Tremolux to 6BQ5 or EL84? What about plate or screen voltage? anything you'd change in the tone circuit to take advantage of different tubes?
thanks

I'll bite. why would you want to? if you're in a blackface tremolux, your voltages will be too high for EL84. your OT is not close to correct impedance for EL84. Aside from that, it would be downgrading. What's wrong with the Tremolux?

There was a Tremolux with 6BQ5's, the 6G9.

Yeah, Leo beat ya too it, by 50 years.
It only lasted part of the first year,
so I guess it wasn't very popular.
It might be interesting, though.

Yellow jackets. No need for a butcher job.If you don't like them, sell them on flea bay.

I was thinking it might sound good in a 2X10 combo. 6G9 is hard to find but I'm looking.
Batty great pics - never seen EL84 tube retainers like that. Tube chart looks like a mimeograph!
Is there anything you could do besides replacing the OT to help the impedance mismatch?

I wish that was my amp! That has to be the Holy Grail of Blond Fenders- less than 100 made- I've actually played one a few years ago, and could have bought it for $1200. It sounded good, with very nice balanced tone, but it wasn't real loud. I think a Deluxe OT would work with an 8Ω load, probably OK with 4Ω.

$1200 - yowie! That sounds like a lot but I know it's relative. Even the electrolytics look new (old).
Just dreaming here. I have two AB763 amps and want something different.
6G9 has a bias voltage on the output tubes but no adjustment - yellowjackets run in cathode bias.
Also, the yellowjackets might be too tall in a head box, ok in a combo.
