Title: Replicate a vintage transformer
Post by: atmars on July 18, 2010, 12:31:58 am
Does anyone have any experience with or can recommend a good resource to have a vintage transformer blueprinted and wound? I have a vintage output transformer that I would be interested in replicating and I am wondering who can do this work, how difficult is it, and what it might cost?

Any ideas?

Thanks

All specialized winders/manufacturers offer this kind of service. Expect to pay $250 and more for the reverse engineering part, plus costs associated with building a single copy, say $100+.

What is the transformer from?  Check with Mercury Magnetics... They do this sort of stuff.

Heyboer will do it too, as will Edcor.  99% chance they will have to destroy the original in the process.  Something to consider.  Today's iron, copper, and insulation are different from days of old.  What you get back should be electrically and mechanically the same, but expect some acoustical/psychoacoustical differences.  Chances are, unless it's something completely oddball, there's already a clone.

Yeah -  it's an oddball transformer. i thought there was some place in North Carolina that people had recommended, but maybe I saw it on another forum. Has anyone here actually done it?
