Title: Me Surfin wit da Alien
Post by: EL34 on July 23, 2010, 02:57:27 pm
This is another attempt at video recording, editing and creating a streaming file.

I go a new Canon SX20 IS amera that an shoo movies in HD and stereo sound.
I had to drop the camera quality down from HD 1280 x 720 to 640 x 480 to get the file sizes way down.
Then I had to squish the final video down to get a decent size so that it can be streamed via the net.
This also squished the sound quality.
The final video does not look or sound anywhere near as good as the original.
Oh well..... the web just is not fast enough yet

This is a big file and so there will be some buffering before it plays

Edited:I removed the old versions, this is the new mix

I figured out how to get way better sound
Check out this mix with 128K 44khz sound

Please give me some feedback

Doug,

On my computer screen this video was even more detailed and clearer to view than the other one. Sound was good too (although the sound on the other one was very good and probably comparable)!

I don't know how in the world you can remember a lead solo that is that long??!!

Playing sounded great and you sure make it look like it's effortless for you. You ripped out some pretty quick licks there in places.

Very very cool stuff.  I liked the effects on the screens at the start and finish too. Very nice quality viewing.

I liked it.  Thanks for sharing it.    Jeff

First video sounded and looked great. I'm not getting audio on the second, but that's probably on my end. And is that an IBM Model M keyboard? Vintage all the way!

Thanks Guys,

And yes, that is a vintage IBM keyboard.
I convert vintage IBM keyboards to PS2 plugs for all my modern computers

The keys are actual switches on the old keyboards and they feel so much nicer than a membrane keyboard.
You can get them for free at the recycling stations here where people throw away their old computers.

I tell ya what is funny?
Looks like I have some sort of fancy hip dance going
A hula hula hippy dippy thing?
Just tapping my foot actually, but it looks really odd.

No sound on the second video?
Plays ok here.

The second video made by Mixcraft 5 seems to drop a ton of frames in favor of a better audio track.
Hmm, anyone else?

I only checked out the 2nd one in favor of better audio myself.  I guess it was dropping frames although I thought it was simply a cool video effect.  You are quite the picker.  Very nice.

Tried it on another computer and the sound worked great. Guess my Linux machine doesn't like it for some reason.

Those keyboards are great. They have quite the cult following. Often referred to affectionately as the "Clicky Keyboard".

Probably a codec is missing on your machine that was used to make the video.

Clicky is right.
You definately know when you are typing on one of these old beast

Yeah, I use Mint Linux, and Firefox seems a bit buggy on it. I work on computers by trade (or did until my job was cut yesterday), but I rarely have the motivation to work on my own machines.

Thanks guys
I like making rude noises on the guitar.

The backing track I used faded out at the end and I had to go with the flow.

Sounds great.
I don't know much about video plus audio but I have been getting really comfortable with 48K/24bit on the audio side.
Seems to be just the right balance as recording and mix down.
mho.

That whammy/bridge looks like it behaves BTW.

That bridge is spot on perfect and always returns to zero.

It's an Ibanez Edge-pro or Edge-pro 2, can't remember
Feels really smooth, no sharp edges enywhere.

I added another spring in back, there are four springs, because I use heavier strings 11-48

My M-Audio Ultra does 96K/24bit, but I usually just record Guitar rig at 48K/16bit

It takes a big longer for the audio to kick in, but the first rush of noise is truly the stuff that surfin' is made of.
