Title: Curious about one tube reverb
Post by: NannerPuddin on August 06, 2010, 09:46:03 am
So I have seen several folks talking about using a one tube reverb scheme.  Could somebody tell me what this is all about?  What are the pros and cons of this?  I have a project that has been on my mind for a while, and I am curious if the one tube reverb might be the ticket.  I like the 6A40 I built so much I am going to do a one channel version of it with a 12" speaker.  The idea is to get it as small as I can to make a cool little amp for taking to blues jams. Originally, I was not going to use reverb, but if I could do it with one tube I would definately give it a whirl.

Has anyone tried this with an AB763 circuit?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Doug

Did you look in the ARCHIVES?  Or do a "search"?

I would not suggest doing the one tube reverb on an AB763 build. The one channel is compact enough and the one tube reverb is not enough reverb for me in a Fendery build.I've built a couple of one channel AB763's and used the stock reverb with two tubes.I'll never do it any other way on this circuit.
The one tube reverb is great to add to many circuits where you need an extra gain stage or to amps that don't normally have reverb, but it falls short of the lush Fender reverb we've all gotten used to hearing over the years.
For those of us who don't like the Fender reverb, then by all means use the one tube version.Don't get me wrong,it sounds great. It just can't do that drenched reverb and surf sounds.
