Magnatone M10A OT
« on: September 21, 2010, 12:13:39 pm »
Does anyone know the primary impedance of a Magnatone M10 output transformer? I think i see 10,000 at 16 ohm on a barley ledgible old schematic. That cant be right can it?

That's right.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

10K:16r is the same as 5K:8r, so just get a Hammond 25 to 30 watt UL with 5K primary and 8r secondary and connect a 16r speaker.

Hammond 125E has multiple impedances and they sound great too.
Sure not necessary to use an ultralinear OT,but a bigger Hammond might be cool. Two 7189's are not much different than EL84's.

I have been all over the Hammond site. Closest thing i have found is 4K 35 watts. I dont think the tremelo in this thing will sound as sweet as it is known for with a lower primary. I found a 10K 35 watt with ultra taps but it was SE

Vibrato (not tremolo) happens in the preamp. What does the OT have to do with it?

Your right. Im wasnt thinking clearly. Vibrato. I thought the impedance would dictate the tone some what. There a cloud going by. Thanks for finding the link to the 5K 30 watt OT. Im having one of those weeks.
