Check this out - Dorian Cheah
« on: September 26, 2010, 03:13:58 pm »
I heard a tune on a movie done by Dorian Cheah
Went searching for his stuff, but could not come up with much

Found this clip on YouTube

Check out the rockin solos by Dorian on Violin and Elana Chea on Cello
This stuff borders on strings metal

THAT is just wild!!!   If I wasn't watching, I might not recognize it as violin and cello.

I love that sort of stuff
The tune I heard in the movie was really cool and I may do something with it later on.

Yeah,  I like that stuff also. I think I saw them on PBS one time doing something pretty over the top also?  It is kind of metal sounding isn't it?

I've always like violin and cello. I had a chance to see YoYo Ma with the Dallas Symphony and it was a fabulous experience.  And I remember seeing Doug Kershaw do some full tilt fiddling in the past.

I love the sound of bowed strings.

Cello's sound so fat, and resonate just right to my ears
Love violin also, and bowed bass

That chick rips on cello
They both sound like they are stepping on distortion pedals during certain parts

I like the parts where she gets a big grin on her face when Dorian starts his ripping solo

She's a remarkable player & she seemed to be very much enjoying the gig.

I think they were both using some type of effects maybe distortion and compression?
