I thought this forum's readers would dig this:

Might actually be cool to build into a rack- ala Phil Lesh

Brilliant.

See? A useful 'scope ain't much more work than an AA Champ.

I've never seen a fully specced-out phantastron.

For general use it wants more "Speed" range. Pot R10 may be increased a lot to slow it, but it's already an odd value. (Fender Trem Speed pot would be a good part.) R11 may be reduced but at some point it must quit working. C5 may be switched to other values, but keep wires short (keep V2 near its knobs). At some point C10 probably has to scale to get triggering.

This will probably work with a single 300V supply. That's what I used to rebuild a gutted Allen B. DuMont 'scope with silly-state wagging the bottle. It's not as bright as it could be, but sensitivity is better. with a proper eye-shade over the face it worked fine.

Power consumption is about 15mA so a Champ PT is way more than enough. A pair of 12VAC 15VA transformers would work.

Mo' fun : turning a 'scope into a clock, using for instance the O'Clock module.

I really like those scope clocks. Super cool. But I couldn't justify keeping it on all the time and it's even a tad harder imagining building such a thing when you can find an LED clock in a thrift store for $1 or $2.

you can find an LED clock in a thrift store for $1 or $2. OK, then glue it to the screen of a digital scope   :angel  and you won't have to turn on the scope!
