X Box 360 with Kinect
« on: November 22, 2010, 07:31:11 pm »
Anyone messed with XBox 360 and Kinect yet?

I bought my girlfriend the Xbox/Kinect package for Xmas because she wanted to excercise inside this winter to one of the Dance video games.
I also bought a game that I would want to play.

Haven't got it yet, but have read some great reviews on the Kinect compared to wii.

Don't have a clue as to what you are talking about. I'm down in my cave playing duck hunt on my NES.

Good one

Kinect is a motion sensor, face recogntion and speech recognition system that hooks up to the Xbox
You play the Xbox/Kinect ready games by using motions and speaking.

It recognizes faces and can tell the difference between two players.

Where as with the wii, you have to have special controllers for all their motion games, you don't need anything with the Kinect system.

Pretty cool stuff.

I used to have an Atari and all the good cartridges.
Can I play?
I too am out of the loop.

Honestly, I stay away from games because I will become instantly addicted to them.(like a recovering addict)
But anymore with the wii physical interaction and stuff,it certainly looks appealing to get off me duff.
Let us know how it goes!

I got the Xbox with Kinect and hooked it up to check it out.

It's pretty amazing.

Pretty silly for sure.
It actually snaps pics of you during the game and plays them back after.

It's very intense excercise for sure.

I'm in pretty decent shape and I have to sit down and rest quite a bit.

The Kinnect don't require the use of any controllers like for the Wii or Sony's Move. HOWEVER it does require lots of space for optimal recognition of every gesture you make in front of it and costs the most to add on to an existing system. The Move has some really good tracking accuracy. And... of course the Wii has it's limitations and pluses as well, such as it is how the Wii was meant to be played in the first place so any Wii ever bought includes it FREE. (Wii Fit of course excluded from that statement.)

That's what I thought when I was reading the info about it, but it's not bad at all.
I have learned a bunch about it since playing it

About 5 to 8 ft front to back is the range needed for some games, not all
Maybe 6 to 8 ft side to side

It depends on the game itself
Some games you only have to move side to side one step and jump up and down.
Some games you just are shooting and so you stand in one place and move your arms

You stand in front of the kinect sensor and it will show you the aceptable playing area on the screen.
You can move around inside that playing area to figure out your boundries.

If you move outside the area, an icon show on the screen to let you know that you need to adjust your position.
It's pretty cool.
