TOS preamp as a stand-alone
« on: March 23, 2011, 10:27:42 am »
hey guys
I've been reading about this TOS and I've got to have one. I'm interested in building it as an FX unit so I could use it with a variety of amps. If I missed it, my apologies, but has anyone here done so? Practical? My wife would have a cow if another amp showed up but she might miss this...any thoughts? Thanks in advance

I don't see why you couldn't make that work?

I think if I were going to attempt that, I'd do the preamp (clean and OD) and
add a 12AU7 active effects loop.  And then plug it into a passive effects loop return of another amp.  This is sort of the idea & direction I'd head.

With respect, Tubenit

I'm in the planning stages of a similar project, unrelated to the TOS.  I have a few builds lying around with power amp inputs wired in them, and then I came across a small $25 PT that David Allen sells that *think* will fit in a 1U chassis and has enough juice for three 12A_7's.  This PT wouldn't handle Tubenit's suggestion, but I happen to be building a d'lator along with my preamp in another 1U chassis, so the end result will be the same.

I guess since Doug doesn't offer a similar product, this is OK.

Look for model TP2X

260V (no CT) at 10mA, 6.3V @ 1A
