Just for info .

I took out the weber sig 10 ceramic and compared it to the Jensen C10R and the Jensens mag was not as large or as strong , the Jensen alos had what looks like dope on the suround . Bottom line in my AA764 champ build the Jensen sounds better and works better with the amps tone stack and also the added pot to over ride the NBF loop .

The amp is much less tight sounding , loser bass whcih stands out more and much less high end . Perhaps the weber is just to stiff of a speaker for a champ

It's a real pain but you have to match the speaker to the amp. I found that out when I built a 5E3 with a Weber Sig 10 ceramic. It sounded awful! Later, I built a BF Deluxe (no reverb or trem) with SF voltages to the PI and preamp, and cathode bias, basically for Motown rythm. I had nothing else so I stuck in the Sig 10 just to try it out. It was perfect. I've tried others but nothing sounds as good. You're right about the OD; this is a fairly stiff and clean speaker, although it does loosen up some when broken in. One thing about this amp/speaker combo, when it's dimed, the amp really sings... and the speaker lets you hear it without getting loose and farting things up.
My point is (yes, there really is one), there are too many variables to say, "This is a good/bad speaker." When you find the right speaker for the amp, it becomes magic.

Yes it is a real pain to find the right speaker , not so bad this time because i only had the two speakers . Can't afford any more. Thing is all champ speakers listed by Jensen or Weber are specific for that amp , all 8" but when you get into tens or twelves then you have nothing to go by . I doubt if my little champ would ever break in the sig 10s ceramic . I already had it in there for two years and it sounded as stiff to me as when new. I just figured since the coil and mag are the motor the more stiff the cone is and the more powerful the mag is it's going to dampen the movement and cause the cone to move out and back in much quicker offering that tight tone. The only why I could really tell swapping the speakers is play one day with one and try all the controls to see how they reacted then the next day do the same thing with the other speaker making note of what I heard .

It was really amazing how with the Jensen how the tone controls responed in a different way , one notch made a difference where before half a turn was needed , by then all the clarity was lost. I guess you could say the Jensen is more sensitive and this really stands out , it is also louder.

I''ve tried those exact speakers in a Champ myself.  I liked thee Jensen better... BUT, both needed to be broken in... Pound the Sig for a while and try again.
