Solid state rectifier for 6G6B bassman
« on: November 20, 2011, 12:39:22 pm »
I think I need to put some new diodes in my bassman rectifier.Looks like there is 6 in the rectifier and 1 for the negative bias voltage.  Are they all 1N4007 Rectifier diodes or do I get something else.   THANKS!!!

1N4007 will work well.... in fact you can get away with using one diode per leg instead of 3.  Those early diodes were rated fairly low voltage wise and there were worries of premature failure....Fender put them in series so if one shorted, then the other two could still do the job on each leg.  The modern 1N4007 is rated at 1000v and not prone to failure, so one per side is plenty. For sake of matching the schematic, you could do three per side, and since diodes are cheap many people do it this way.

I 'll go for three diodes to keep the original look.  Use heat dissipator whren soldering diode if you are not a pro in soldering,
Heat dissipato is long nose plier holding the end of the diode you solder, I use too , tweezer, Alligator clip
