Reverb Champ Layout Help?
« on: October 01, 2012, 12:22:32 pm »
Hello Everyone,

I'm about to attempt my first build with reverb and I'm looking for a little guidance. The circuit I'm using is the Champ Reverb by psychonoodler which can be found in the schematic archive. I have also attached an updated Schematic for reference. This will be a custom turret board so I would like to know if anyone can suggest a reasonable layout or provide some advice for how I should set mine up. If I could I'd like to maintain a Hoffman style board but I'm not sure where I need to place the reverb circuit for that. I would also like to know about transformer placement for the chassis. Ill be using a 16 x 8 x 2 hammond chassis for this build so there should be plenty of room. I just want to know where the iron should be oriented with regards to one another and the pre and power tubes.

Any and all advice is welcome,

Cheers,

Neill

check out the reverb champ schematics and layouts on this forum.  I'll make bet your layout could close to one of Leo's.

Here are a couple more Champish Reverb ideas

My understanding is the Champ with EL-34 & reverb was from a working amp.

I'd use a parallel turret design which is much easier to modify if needed.  The Hoffman design works fantastic with a proven design, but if you're experimenting and modifying ........ I prefer a paralleled turret design.

With respect, Tubenit

OK, here is an incomplete  DRAFT layout for Physconoodler's schematic.

I've run out of time this am.   How about finishing this and repost it and we'll look for errors.

In case you're wondering .............  I've built a bunch of amps with one tube reverb with the reverb part of the layout over by the preamp input.  No issues on doing that on any of the amps.

With respect, Tubenit

When I built mine the layout was easy.
-power transformer in the middle of the chassis on the left looking at the underside of the chassis.
-power filtering inside either on the side of the chassis or to the right of the power transformer or even on the main board.(easiest)
-revern transformer between the driver and recovery tubes or if you use a one tube reverb like Tubenit does, then beside the tube.
-output transformer in the middle of the chassis 90degrees offset from the PT laminations direction.
-use a choke. They help keep the amp quiet with all the extra stuff.A single ended amp needs all the help it can get in that regard.
