6SN7 HoSo56 & D'Mars
« on: September 29, 2013, 01:43:39 pm »
Just a couple of ideas to consider.  I have NOT built either of them but hope to try these out someday.  I did listen to some clips of a push/pull amp with 6SN7 power tubes and thought it sounded excellent!

It should be noted that you can find a layout under the HoSo56 and D'Mars ODS in the SCH files.

CHECK for ERRORS!   Compare to tube data sheets also.

Over on ax84.com Cliff Chappell posted works over a trainwreck derivative with 6sn7gtb as a powertube. Worked quite well.
He ended up using a 12aY7 for the phase inverter though.
At one point I tried using that same poweramp as a low power version of the 18 watt lite iib.
It sounded quite good, iirc

EDIT:  I did some more reading and saw that individuals who tried using the 6SN7's in a push/pull power tube arrangement were recommending around 20 ohm output transformers.  However, I also read where someone was very happy with the tone using a 10 ohm output transformer setup.

On the AX84 October Studio (low power) and the 4-4-0 Studio, Chappell recommends a 22K primary (I believe that's what you were meaning, above), particularly the Hammond 125C with multi-taps.

As always, thanks for the inspiration.  I'm a bit overwhelmed by the possibilities.
