Acoustic 165
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anybody out there familiar with an Acoustic 165. I'm trying to revive one for a friend. The amp hasn't been used in several years. I replaced the fuse holder and got sound but the amp sounds horrible. I plan to replace all of the filter caps. But I'm not finding the exact replacements what should I use in place of a 60mfd/350v. I'm not sure what the caps do because I'm not that versed in amps with circuit boards.
Also, should I replace the Mallory 40mfd/500v, 40mfd/500v cap cans. They are twist lock type and I can't find a direct replacement for them. Should I change to a clamp type can like a Marshall.
Thanks for any help

Hay mojo
Isn't all Acoustic Amps solid state??? This is mostly a all tube
amp forum. On older tube amps instead of replacing the can we usually install idividual filter caps in a clear available space
on terminal strips or build a small board for them. If you
look at Dougs info on this site he gives you several ways to do
that. Plate

This amp is tube with a switchable FET preamp..which I know nothing about..I believe the amp to be a mesa boogie clone built around 1980

Yes!! PC fun.
I have a model 160 which is just the head. They were killer amps in their time. I replaced all of the electrolytic caps in mine last year. For the 60mf/350vdc i used a 100uf/350vdc. I also went with the 50uf50uf/500vdc cans with clamp brackets for the 40uf/450vdc caps. Good luck Stan
