Highway Star test
« on: July 10, 2015, 05:32:29 pm »
I came up with this tone that reminded me of Jon Lord's organ tone in deep purple
Only because it's got some octaves around the main notes and it sounds real fat

I did this quickie sound clip to see how it sounds recorded.
It's got an Octavia in there doing some cool stuff.
Maybe I'll do the whole tune if I get time.
Have to learn the solos :icon_biggrin:
Deep Purple Highway Star test clip.

OK, but you gotta do the Made in Japan version!  The studio version was boring....  Use your EH Hammond pedal to do Jon Lord's solo and fills.  Send it to me and I'll do the vocals :icon_biggrin:

I still cant believe how well this holds up.  Best live album of all time, best live song of all time, best cruising song of all time!  This was 1972 and NOBODY was playing stuff like this.  I just love Ritchie's Major working hard with that slashing distortion you only get when its cooking.  Jon's massive Hammond.  Glover's thundering bass.  Paice's clockwork drumming.  And nobody, but nobody can sing like Gillan. :worthy1: :worthy1: :worthy1: :worthy1: :worthy1:  Best concert I have ever been to in my life, the same year - warped me for life! :m8

No way, the album version is the best driving song ever
I flip it on when I get into my car and it's rock and roll time

Live stuff is nice for a change, but the Machine Head album version is perfection

Machine Head is great, but it sounds like they are playing sheet music. MIJ is maximum DP output. Just get Lazy!

Like I said, live versions are great, but not my favorites in many cases

AMEN BROTHER STEVE!  They were hitting on all cylinders at that point (so to speak), right before the big fallout.  That love/hate thing that kills most bands, but gives us some incredible work.  MIJ Lazy was a combination of rock, blues, jazz, and a touch of fusion thrown in for good measure!  Staggering work.

Doug, I will have to say that with all the Stratocaster hate around here (Tubenit...), the fact that you like these guys warms my crabby old heart (Ed)!  Studio or live, you are good with me!

Machine Head is the best album DP ever did, but MIJ is just so full of energy and life. And I certainly want to hear the Hoffman full version of Highway Star! Keep us updated.

Hey guys, I will concur. Hitting my teens just as these and others were at there best and NOT having an opportunity to see any in the flesh is a bummer. So we rely on recorded material to get our fix and many memories of sailing down the coast in my 1971 Datsun 1600 with a cranked Highway Star. Great stuff. Thanks

And what makes you think I would have read this?  I wish I knew how to write out riffs in words.  Lazy is running through my head.  I do love Made in Japan, but I really like Machine Head as well.  Yes, more sterile and not the power I know of as Purple, but still an unbelievable studio effort.

It is not possible to translate the Power of a live performance in the studio to those who have played live.  I hear Made in Japan and Johnny Winter And and not only hear it, but I can feel it.

Agreed tho a great driving song and hitting interstate mile markers with empty beer bottles.  Yes, we are getting a tad crusty, but I still Turn it Up but I have to cause I cannot hear it anymore.
