Bass od/fuzz in Ernie ball volume.?
« on: December 21, 2016, 11:51:55 pm »
has anyone seen, or made a fuzz or O. D.  Circuit  in an Ernie ball volume pedal shell?  I've got a good buddy that I want to build one for.  E. B.  Just came out with some fx in their enclosures, and I think he likes their feel/response, (the volume pedals)  but think they're costly with fx built in.  I've got vpjr + stereo,  n figure build in 1of my shells,  send to him,  he can send me his.  Main factors, blending of fx w/unaltered original clean signal, what circuit to build,  and placement of on off toggle switch. Possibly in separate stomp box,  with volume pedal as expression but think he's looking for blend of clean/dirt, and amt of dirt,  from 0-10 mixed in.  Guess if clean is always being passed,  dirt brought up on gain control (foot) would just keep getting dirtier the more it's increased.  Any thoughts,  Bassists, any cool DIY circuits?  And where/ how for on off switch? " Thanks!

never fried a tranny ..till I built a dim bulb tester. UPDATE-haven't fried anything since learning how to properly build & use one...thanks Uncle Doug, & el34 World

There's a clone of the Team Awesome Fuzz Machine out that has a blend knob for clean/fuzz and apparently it's very excellent on bass. The way it blends looks like it has a clean and a fuzz knob, so some experimentation might be in order.   I'd go watch the videos on youtube

That build was based of the FSB forum schematic which was verified by the effects builder, and other than that weird NPN Germanium transistor (Which come in lots of like 40 on Ebay) its pretty basic parts.   The board would fit in an expression pedal pretty easily I'm guessing.

I'd put all the controls in the side of the pedal, and use a 3pdt stomp to turn it on and off for true bypass.   The fuzz or clean pot could then be used as the rocker actuated pot (Maybe have to get creative with that).  I have not actually used the pedal, but I'm guessing for what you're describing setting one and actuating the second with the expression pedal will get you the results you're looking for.   maybe!

Incidentally, in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxhi7sjAa98  at about 7:00 is where they start showcasing the functionality you are interested in.  He also does some volume swell delay stuff that is insane.    I'm totally building this pedal.   I'll split some MP35's with you!

S&P, pretty much all pedals from a light OD to heavy distortion to Fuzz have a simple pot that - call it what you want - applies an amount of gain to the circuit. When dialed back you have an almost clean boost and dialed up you get more and more of the OD/Disto/Fuzz. This control can be easily placed to the rotational pot on a foot pedal if you want. I think this would sound best rather than picturing a guitar's clean tone with a faint fuzz trailing in the background and you may not get the nice full effect anyways with this approach? It would seem a bit hollow or shallow? I personally either want the effect brought in or I don't. And thinking of the blending idea doesn't seem to make for much usefulness? I have a feeling it would be always pressed down but who knows? I will say that I had a Morley Fuzz-Wah when younger and I never did like it for that and only really used it for it's basic wah ability. I rarely used it actually and eventually sold it. You should youtube it and see if it's something you actually will find if it's for you or not? Also consider picking one up for less time and money maybe rather than reinventing the wheel and not coming up with something that works as well in the end and being frustrated?

To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism. To steal from many is research.

BoS & Jojo....Thanks for, & apologize for delay in acknowledge. Slipped past me & notification was changed....Yeah, like sparkle drive sorta. Ts9 (y) w/dry mix...... Apparently bassists( especially Brad C) who play 6 + strings (like a piano if he wants)....Cross between all the strings, low freq, tri  amping cabs. They keep low intact,  fuzz mid/band pass, filter highs to taste, maybe envelope low, fuzz mid, chorus/verb highs_who knew they were having so much fun? .

For solos, even flavors of ensemble/parts. Old days of thin distorted bass are still in too. Hear bands I think are old Black Sabbath in credits of movies, only to discover some new band.......Down to the

'alright nows', bam bam dadada Da da dah..Bam Bam dadada  graooooww.

Thanks, gonna check tagboards....I'm there all the time. Just didn't know what to look for.
