New D'Mars ODS build: questions for Tubenit?
« on: March 06, 2017, 12:57:55 pm »
Hello. I'm starting a new D'Mars build and have a few questions (especially for Tubenit, if he is kind.) This will be my most ambitious build to date, although redoing a pro reverb completely with a Hoffman board was no small feat.

I got the parts package from Doug and have managed to populate the board using the layout from 2012. And then I found a couple later versions while searching for more info. Is the version from 6-14-14 the last non-2 cathode follower version?  and is the parts package for this version or some other version. Should I be building the 2CF?

Also, what is the value for the second (optional) cap on the relay supply board Doug sells? And does the regulator on this need to be heat sinked?  I can't see an easy way to attach it to the chassis the way the board is laid out.  I played with using a smaller finned heat sink, but don't really know how much heat I'll need to sink with three relays and the led's for the footswitch.

When I look at the pictures of the board in the original thread, I see components that I don't see on the layout.  Am I correct in thinking the pic was from an earlier prototype?

Any and all help will be appreciated.  I love the sound of this amp from the samples.  I just want to do it justice and not have to do things twice.

Thanks,

Tod

The optional cap is 4700uf/16v radial and Doug sells it.  It's probably not needed.

I'd just build the original.

The sound clips were all original, I think?   I did try different versions and more then not, they were just different and not necessarily better.  Some of the versions were done to have a good tone with a particular speaker.  I've used Cannabis Rex, Texas Heat, Red, White & Blues and then a Delta Pro 12A.  Depending on what speak I was using, I'd end up tweaking something.

After you play it for a week or two, if you want to change the tone in some regard, just post a clip and let us know what you'd like to change.

Looking forward to seeing and hearing what you do with the build.

With respect, Tubenit

Thanks, Tubenit.  Any thoughts on heat sinking the regulator to the case or a small heat sink?

There is nothing that was heat sinked on any of the 3 D'Mars amps I have built. There is a lot of information on relays in the ARCHIVES.
