Power Tube EL84 screen grid and grid stopper resistors
« on: July 12, 2017, 04:04:43 pm »
Is it better to have the screen grid and grid stopper resistors  soldered to the socket pin or on the board?  I've done them both ways. I like them on the board for a better look but I need more room so I was thinking directly to the pin would be better?

Thoughts and best practices?

Stoppers should be soldered to the pin with a short lead.  There's a scientific reason which escapes me.  A long lead reduces their effectiveness.  Maybe checkout the Aiken amp site techno page.
