Tube Phaser/Vibe

I've been keen on making the Liquidator from Solorb for some time, but recently found Sluckely's warbler, which seemed to condense and update the Liquidator project. There's also this 'Tube-O-Vibe' by Scott Schwartz.

If there's anything you need to know about me, it's that I love knobs... I didn't post to the LFO, but it's PIC based and.. quite a bit of knobbery.

I like Sluckey's warbler, and it's well documented on this forum, but I'm looking for a more than 'just' vibrato (no offense, it sounds amazing!), so I thought I'd see if I could combine the extras from the Solorb and the phase/dry signal bits from the Tube-O-Vibe. I haven't added any values yet, as I wanted to get opinions on the overall topography. It's mostly a copy/paste job as I admit, I don't understand the circuit enough to know what I'm doing.

Because there's only enough bits in the saturatable reactor (what a cool name) to make three stages, I added (what I think to be) a fixed allpass stage at the end. I believe this is a relatively common thing to do in phaser pedals to complex-up the phaser sound (see phase 100, 6 variable and 4 fixed stages). I have also read that feedback in phasers sound best, and avoids squealing, when it's feed through an odd amount of stages. Or an even amount if there are an odd number of total stages. There's 4 stages here, I fed it back into the second stage so it's going through three.

The phase pots from the Liquidator, I admit, don't make sense to me, so I'm not sure if I implemented them correctly.

I fully expect this thing to be beaten to a pulp; I appreciate comments and feedback!

I love seeing neat hand drawn schematics on grid paper. Reminds me of a looong time ago.

What does the parallel cap / resistor do in each stage? It looks sort of like a treble bleed cap of a volume control, but with just a resistor. Does it play into the creation of the notches, or is it just a filter stage? I think it's present in the original Hammond schematic - is that why it's there in both the Solorb and Sluckey's projects and not in the Scott Swartz design?

I have been loving the digital pen and tablet function of the Window's Surface. I've done my fair share of schematics and layouts in EAGLE, which is great when you need to make a PCB from a schematic, but the continuous going into menu's and finding parts is so comberson compared to the ol' (or not so ol') 'pen and paper'.

Thanks Sluckey! It was a real ‘welcome to the future’ feeling when I started doodling with it. Pretty convient! I see they have coffee table type Surface now for some... bigger... schematics?


I’ve done a bit more reading, and really duginto the first half of the thread about the Warbler. Working on a different schematic now, think I understand the stages a bit better.
