Early nineties Ampeg Reverbrocket
« on: October 16, 2018, 04:48:56 pm »
Hi im new, I own the early nineties prototype of the Ampeg Reverbrocket long story short when I plug my guitar into one of the instrument jacks it plays ok for awhile then starts cutting out I can make it quit if I work with the cord thats plugged into the guitar side, the accordian side does this also, or unplug it and plug the cord back in it will play ok for a while then start again your thoughts? I noticed the jacks seemed to be joined together and is one double jack is this fact? I also need to find some new tubes to retube it....ive still go the original atx tubes in it but am running svetlanas matched el 34s as power tubes... im thinking of going with JJs I run those in both my black face fenders I own... is this a jack issue or some kind of tube issue? I has been gone through about five years ago for the same problem the guy that did the work thought it may be the speaker so I had it replaced guess that wasnt the problem....anyway any help would be appreciated.... Thanks Dave

Sounds like a pretty odd issue that it's signal fades over time and resets when you reconnect the jack. could be the jacks themselves have some solder connections starting to go bad so you have intermittent connections or some such, but other than that it could be a ton of things.  Swapping out for new tubes can't hurt and would show you if it's related, if not you still have spare tubes at that point.
