They dont appear to be identical but they do appear to be pretty close. Max dissipation is higher on the 6EU7 for instance.

6EU7 is just a 12AX7 with a different pinout, supposedly optimized for low noise. Call it a 7025 if you want.

If you're going to rewire the socket (60's Gibson?) you might as well rewire for 12AX7.
