Switch to replace jumpering inputs?
« on: November 23, 2020, 01:22:00 pm »
Hi All.  Another offbeat question.
I'm contemplating a 5E3/5 type build and wanted to know if anyone has noodled with using a switch to recreate different combinations of patching between the other input jacks.  I started the design with a simple switch to emulate a guitar into the Normal Hi Input and jumpering the Bright Hi and Normal Low, which is how I've occasionally done it with four-jack tweeds.  Then I figured there are lots of other combinations.  Probably some aren't worth the effort but having a rotary switch in place of three extra jacks and a patch cable would make it easier to do on the fly.  Bright Hi in and tying the Bright Lo and Normal Hi looks interesting too.

The circuitry seems pretty straightforward.   If anyone has looked into this, I'd love to hear how it went.  Thanks, sh

A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Sluckey, the shaded part for your MV in your Supro Schematic, (the dual 500K pot) what does the dotted line represent?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

It's a mechanical link to let you know that both wipers are linked together and move together.

If you wanted to keep the aesthetic of 2 independent input channels here is a option-

What I did in a my friends Silvertone 1474 I modded was use a switching jack for the dry channel, running a connector from the tip input of the main channel to the switched connector of the other jack.
The were essentially two identical channels so it gave you the option of either plugging into one channel for the parallel, plugging into the other for the stock circuit, or plugging into the parallel channel with a footswitch into the other for a switchable option.

Thanks gents.  I had something along the lines of sluckey's switch but with only one of the single channels.  Cheers and Happy T-day, sh
