The continuing SAGA of the 52 Les Paul.......
« on: January 05, 2024, 01:20:38 pm »
A tale of progress on a work in process.....In chasing down some minor issues ...I brought this amp out to the shed to work on it, it worked and sounded great but no tremolo and terrible distortion at volumes past 1/2. I removed the tremolo switch and redid the 6 resistors on it (much easier to work on)....They were WAY out of spec. poked around and found some cold solder joints. poked around a little more and (Pop) I was poking around the inputs.....Hold on....I plugged in a guitar and had very bad sound in all 4 inputs.....so I walked away from it.....Today even though it is not a FENDER ....I went to the "servicing fenders" area of this site and looked through the different noises and as soon as I saw ...."check the ground bus"....BINGO!!!   I had looked at the inputs ground and poked them while on with no obvious issue to be seen or heard ....After reading the before mentioned I took a closer look with a chopstick at the site, I poked with the chopstick poked it again and although it looked ok it was not connected ......The point of this post is that there are a lot of answers to be found on this site if you look. I am curious about the sound of the Tremolo and I am going to put a switch for it. But I am not in a hurry for that.....I may test it today with a jumper, as It's going back out to the shed for the ground issue. I need a cheap guitar to leave out in the shed. It's a long walk  :think1:

I had enough guitars at one time so that there was one in the vicinity no matter where I was. My daughter helped herself to some, so I needed another one. So, I made one, like from scratch. Never done anything like that before. It was pretty therapeutic I thought.

There is no doubt i'll be needing therapy before I get finished with this one. Whatever that pop was it must have done some damage down line =, when you strum a chord it rattle farts and dies.......i'm Hoping it didn't take out the voice coil i'll check that this weekend .....I'm not doing anything with the 52 GA-50t untill this ones right!
