New Builder From MT!

Hello!

I found my way here from TDPRI; I have been a guitarist for over 20 years and got more serious about doing my own work on them over the past 5.  More recently my interest has turned to amps; first messing with speakers and tubes to achieve certain tones, then looking at and learning about circuits, to doing some of my own work.

I built a 5F2A last year, but admittedly did like a lego kit; I got a kit and assembled everything right the first time (with a lot of help from some members at TDPRI) and learned quite a bit, but really did not understand why things went certain places or what they did in terms of the circuitry.  In the past few months I have been trying to remedy that by reading a lot and watching a lot of good stuff on YouTube.

Soon I will embark on my second build, a Brownface 6g16, and I am committed to understand every capacitor and resistor (at least to a degree) before I solder it to the board.  I am pretty well on my way there, but as I have found myself getting redirected to this website so often with Google searches I figured I might as well just join here too, as TDPRI has some great amp experts on there, but it is predominantly a forum for other purposes.

So far on my way to this next build I have assembled most components.  I committed to no kits, so I made parts lists and have been buying cheaper parts in bulk, more expensive components as needed, and am putting together a proper workbench with all my stuff rather than kitchen-tabling it.  The hope is with each new build I will accumulate more (components and knowledge) to eventually allow me to really dissect an amp and problem solve when issues arise.  I could see this turning into a serious hobby, so I'm stoked to be here and learn from other tube amp enthusiasts!

Welcome to the Hoffman Amps forum

There are many different boards on this forum for different topics.

The Tube Amp Building - Tweaks - Repairs board is where you can post amp questions.

That board is listed here.

Thanks,
