Labor Day weekend book recommendation
« on: September 01, 2024, 09:30:24 am »
I think of Labor Day as a celebration of performing work with your hands. The mind keeps you from cutting your fingers off on the table saw.
As politics divides, I see that one thing unites us here. Whether its a profession or a hobby, we use our hands to build and repair things. As I retired, I sold my company. In hiring over 100 staffers, I found a universal truth. Those who have only used their hands on computer keyboards were outperformed by those with physical work or hobby experience.
When I transitioned (no not that kind) from installing solar systems to managing and consulting I experienced a huge void. I filled it by building amps, building two houses, classic bikes, trying to rebuild an MGA (ongoing) and farming 14 acres. My staff would say, "you are not answering your phone." :icon_biggrin:

Amazon has it, but if you still have a local bookstore, they can order it.

people ask me all the time "Aren't you bored being retired?"
Nope, I can self start, have no "tv/entertainment-distraction", no "smart-phone"

Feel kinda sad for the folk that can't just pick up a board, a hammer, a chain-saw, haul brush, et al.

well i'm off to chip n shred a brush-pile, then on to the summer kitchen building the root cellar, finish up setting the scrapes on fire at the brush pile, then kick back and watch the wildlife wander into the yard for a evening meal, total operating cost, for the day $19.95 not counting the free-labor  :icon_biggrin:

I looked at another "hobby project" this morning. 1961 Ford Falcon
Body is decent but motor and trans are junk.
I do have a 351 Clevor with a Paxton that could make for a fun street rod!  :w2: :w2: :w2: :w2:

I am into Rat Rods.
Don't have one or want one, but I love the really cool home brewed creations.
No paint to scratch or worry who you parked next to or afraid some one will key your ride.
