Fender Custom 68’ Pro Reverb findings
« on: February 25, 2025, 05:16:35 pm »
Recently had one of these in the shop.
I found it to be extremely quiet in noisefloor at idle, and extremely quiet in output, versus a vintage two channel pro.
I get that it’s a different critter. Being a shrunk 1 channel offering annd having 3 stages and no parallel channel loading. And the bias trem is a nice addition. Some little ground lifts, etc.

The reverb mixer includes a two-fer divider to knock both verb and dry down. Then pre PI there’s another divider.
These moves in essence made it a 30w RMS deal at quick testing.
The other whopper I found interesting. The verb sucked.

Everything was correct, aside from the new fender divider for wet/dry.

Tested verb iron, and the primary was 1K with a 8ohm load.

That’s what I was hearing.
Same spec 60’s verb tank.

Granted, 60’s fender verbs can get a bit soupy.
But these couple moves they implemented rendered it too flat and lifeless. I mean c’mon 1968 wasn’t this clean.

Anyway, figured I’d pass along.

Swapped verb iron for 25k primary part, and tweaked that wet/dry divider.

Better amp? Maybe
But definitely more akin to its brethren.
