Oscilloscope Question (well more probe question)
« on: April 25, 2009, 01:25:19 pm »
I've been wanting to buy an Oscilloscope (but will admit I've never used one).  I was helping a friend move a company he works for and as we were making the last sweep through he said everything in the building was to be thrown away.  Hell I found a nice almost brand new Dell 22" flat screen monitor, a 12 port netgear switch and a Tenma 72-3055 Oscilloscope.  The problem is there were no probes with the Oscilloscope but it had a manual in the box.  I think they didn't mean to trash it but who was I to argue with him.  My question is what probe/s should I buy for this unit, I will be just using it as I mess with and tinker on these amps.  I looked on Moser and a few other sites and have to say I'm not sure what I'm looking for so I thought I would come to the place where I knew I could get many answers. If any of the spec's would help just let me know what to post the manual has them all in it but being a total newbie  I didn't even know what to post.

Thanks in advance.
Even my coffee maker runs on EL-34's, the best cup of coffee you've ever tasted!

Before spending your money on probes, make sure the trace comes on and you can adjust it nice and sharp.  Make sure you can adjust its position.  It'd be nice to borrow a couple of probes and a signal generator just to make sure it works.

Most any scope probe will work.  Make sure to get ones with long enough leads, with a 10x switch built in and has a clip mechanism.  Good to go!
