the "other hobby" may go south
« on: March 13, 2009, 02:45:31 pm »
One of my hobbies is flying, which may be at an end.  I seem to have a heart problem that isn't clear yet.  They said it was a "glitch" ???  That occurred in late January, and no "glitches' since :)
I'm wearing a little monitor, which I'm supposed to record any more glitches if they occur.

I may be forced to build more amps and steel guitars if flying is all done ???  Maybe I'll get back into boat racing, no FAA medical required for that :)
Or maybe just sit back on my old wood cabin cruiser (rockin' chair doesn't work good on the boat) and sip some sauce. ;D
I'll never figure this out......

I hate to hear that, Bill.  Switch to experimental aircraft and really fly by the seat of your pants.  No physical for that, right?  ...and you can build it yourself.

I was never impressed with the experimental stuff, except for Pitts Specials.  I'm also an A&P with Inspection Authorization, and I usually steer clear of home-builts except for the aerobatic types I work on.

Anyway, I may get thru this OK.  The heart doc I have to go see is a flying friend, and he may know if I'm really done. There are guys flying that have heart by-passes, so things may not be all that bad.

I wont fly over Doug's house no matter what ;D

Bill, you can still fly from the right seat - no matter what.  Not like going up alone, but flying with a bud is alright.  Hang in there pal.  I'm pullin' for you!

Bill--
Mackie2 here-

It's hard to let go of a dream!   I wanted to be a pilot, when I was in the USAF. Tried to get in the AF Academy, but could only get the Merchant Marine Academy.  I didn't last long  there, (sea sick every time I went out), and wound up with  the FAA--what a round robin  trip.  I spent 33+  years with the FAA at a Long Range Radar Site. I watched a lot of  planes on the Radar  during  those years.  You may have  flown through  our TN  airspace from  time to time!  Maybe just a Blip a long time ago, or in later years  alpha-numerics.
Perhaps,  while you are  building amps,  you  could  write down in journal  form  all the good ole days--even  include some of the bad ones.  You may even find a song in  there and ole photos. Later you may reflect back!!!!!  I have just passed 70 and wish I had done something like that, to go along with amp experiments and song writing.  Close Your  Eyes And  Picture That Journey!

I hear ya mackie
Sometimes we just have to move on to other things.  My heart doc told me there's no problem, just an unusual glitch. So my FAA medical is renewed OK.  But even then, my interest in flying is diminished quite a bit in recent years, not the 24/7 it was when I was in aviation for 25+ years, and in it part time for the last 16 years.
Besides the tube amps, I'm restoring an airplane, a Luscombe 8 E, and a '75 El Camino.  The El Camino seems more important at this point.

BILL
I'll never figure this out......
