 Going horizontal?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a guitar playing customer who would like me to do something with an old SS Bass combo. I have him talked into a Firefly or a High Octane for a practice/recording amp. I was thinking that the 15" speaker will soften some of that single ended growl. THe problem is that there is no room to mount any of the tubes vertically. I know there have been threads on this subject, but they have since dropped off. I would like to bring it up again for opinions, suggestions, etc..

Thanks guys,
Jim

I believe horizontal is fine for anything but rectifiers.

(From my memory--check the actual data sheets)
If you use an octal tube rectifier in a horizontal orientation, you need to have pins 2 and 8 in the same horizontal plane.

If you use a single-ended class A design, there's no reason to use a tube rectifier, so the above point is moot.
