Re-wiring an 70's Marshall Cab. . . What guage wire to use?
« on: January 13, 2010, 12:20:00 pm »
I have a late 70's Marshall cab and recently opened it up to find that someone did a serious hack job with re-wiring the speakers. . . . complete with some sort of fuse added into the circuit. . . I want to remove all the bad work and re-do it right . . .I am wondering if anyone can tell me what type and guage of wire would be appropriate?

Thanks!

Lamp-cord always worked for me.

When you run 100 feet, you need to think about gauge, but not for the short runs inside a cabinet. Use what will stand-up to road-abuse.

That's a great point PRR.  I have read article after article by so called "experts" saying they use MONSTER cable (that is 10 times the diameter of the OT secondary wires) because (take your pick): frequency response, power handling, mojo, capacitance, cosmic ether, etc., etc.....  My BS-o-Meter would always go off scale when I heard this stuff.  None of it made sense to me.  Lamp cord is plenty hardy for short cabinet runs.
