pop in a D'lite build, who's in Jacksonville?
« on: July 20, 2010, 09:46:50 pm »
Hello all, anyone in Jacksonville? I just shipped my "audio beacon 40" accross the country, and amp arrived safely except now there is a pop that occurs in one-two minute intervals, only heard on idle. I had a lot of trouble taming this amp, thought I got it squared away. It's pretty much a hosed D'lite, two 6L6, two relays, turret board construction, if it persists I was wondering if anyone here is in Jacksonville, Fl, who could maybe take a look and a fix. There's no other ill function, dude is really pleased with the amp, pop is bothering me as much or more than it is bothering him so far.
Thanks in advance, dwp

a bad preamp tube will pop sometimes.Try another set of preamp tubes,or just swap out one at a time.If it works you save yourself the tech charges. If it doesn't,you have nothing to lose.

Could be something that is plugged in or on the same mains wiring. Try a different wall socket.

thanks for the replies, still waiting to hear back on the tube changes. The problem I was having that I thought I fixed was/were the ground at the input jack/preamp end was alive. Like highly active risdual current on the grounds. Or static electricity, or leakage, building up to a point of discharge, "snap". (preamp end of board and input jacks tied to chassis together per Doug's scheme)

I thought I fixed this once, it is back, or maybe not, maybe it is tubes......
