Speaker Built Like A Guitar

I wonder how long it will be before they make a version for guitar amps:

I can think of a hundred  resonances reasons why this wouldn't work for Hi-Fi, but this concept might be kind of cool for a guitar amp.

At $2,000 per pair they had better sound good.

Put me down as a skeptic.  I've been out of the loop for a while, but even Onkyo's best didn't command much respect by the true high enders, so I view them as an unlikely partner in a major speaker innovation.  It's all subjective though, so somewhere, someone will love the way these sound...maybe the designer's mother!  :rolleyes:   :grin:

Ahem. Most Western "audiophiles" don't know a thing about Japanese speakers. Onkyo is the world's largest producer of high fidelity speakers and has produced some outstanding models such as the Monitor 100 and the Scepter series - their GS-1 Grand Scepter was one of the best ever (and still is).

OK, their D-TK10 is a gadget, typical of what JP companies do from time to time. My current fave are Pioneer's Pure Malt speakers...

Those of us in the professional audio field (well, I used to be) have a saying;

"Audiofools and their money are soon parted."

As both a guitar maker and an audio pro, I say no.

I'm talking about the engineers/designers from companies like Convergent, Merlin, Avalon, Wilson, Well Tempered, SOTA, Melos, Grant, Kimber, Cardas, etc, before most of them had much of a dealer network.  You generally won't find these companies anywhere near the mainstream convention centers. These are the type of folks that stay after hours at the smaller CES highend hotel rooms and swap/play with equipment until the security folks boot them out...this is usually during the timeframe when the more business minded types wine and dine the dealers over a fancy dinner.   Nothing but sound mattered to these guys and they have incredibly refined listening skills (or did have once up a time!), and a profound passion for advancing the state of the art....these guys are way beyond what most of us will ever encounter.  If Onkyo had a product that merited their attention, I'd think it'd get it.

Cork sniffers don't think for themselves, they just follow blindly a few self-proclaimed gurus.

These guys aren't the cork sniffers, though I'm sure a big part of their market is....they're the real deal...someone's got to supply the corks.  :wink:
