schematic ownership - usage etiquette?
« on: January 20, 2011, 07:17:43 am »
I recently asked a question on here, and i knew it would of been much more useful to supply a schematic to help others help me!

The problem is they are not easily available on the internet at least in any legible quality.

I have a small handbook compiled by an enthusiast which he sells on line with clear schematics and layouts.

I would have scanned then an posted them up in an instant but was worried it would be "bad form" or "frowned upon".

what do you think?

who actually owns the rights to a schematic and how sensitive should one be in their use?

I imagine these servicing of these amps could not be possible without such a valuable resource so i guess its not a problem to share and share alike but just incase i am missing anything i would be interested to hear others views.

thanks!
Cheers,
Bakerlite

The rights to schematics belong to it's original author(s) until said schemos fall into the public domain. Republishing cleaned versions of publicly available schemos doesn't constitute a protected derivative work, and, anyway, urther partial publishing of said can constitute fair use.

So I would say that it's OK to republish said, duly crediting the source(s) and author(s).

But all matters related to intellectual property (IP) are quite complex, if not messy, and I'm no IP shark lawyer...
