If you are asking about a blackface bassman, you can have both blackface and early marshall tones in the same amp with some simple mods.....

There isn't an option to choose both tones in your poll. :icon_biggrin:

Correct it is an either or question.
As far as having both in one here is the options that I am looking at that are supplied with the kit I am working on. It is the MOD 101 Kit.

The problem with the Marshall was the preamp being like the tweed bassman, having way too much low end. But overall sound just changing out a cap or 2 and it is a better live big venue tone for rock and blues rock. The BF Bassman just did not have the push. I used to rewire the Marshall 4x12 cabs to 4ohms or whatever they were since the speakers were actually 15 ohms, or so they said. But you just could not get that push from the bassman even if modded.

The only thing is that the Marshalls were extremely unreliable those days. You never knew what you were getting and they blew up constantly if pushed into the place they sounded best, CRANKED!!!!. What I mean by push is hard to explain, it's as though the sound falls out of the speakers on a Fender sometimes but the Marshalls could be heard in the back of the room. The Fender really did sound good when using the old D120 type JBL speaker. That's a setup I loved, I used a Firebird with a BF Bassman with a SUNN cab with a D130 15"....loud and the sound did not fall out of the cab. That's why I preferred open back Fenders unless they had a JBL or C12Ns in those small 2-12 cabs.

I think the best BF sound to my ear was the mid 60's Super Reverb(even the SF 1968 version was awesome) and the best Marshall was the 50 watt MKII early 70 heads either point to point or those early printed boards. The best cab IMO was the 4x12 bass cabs that said 120 in the corner, they had the HD speakers in them with the cream colored backs, not the greenbacks. Also those 8x10 cabs sounded great but the speakers would blow so easily. IMO Carlos Santana's best sound was at Woodstock, small head 50 watt with the 8x10 cab and an SG with P-90s...wow.
