Bloom?
« on: April 22, 2011, 01:09:23 am »
Hey guys I need some advice. I want to build a preamp that has, I don't know what you call it, but when you hit a chord the notes swell up and come out to harmonics. Or you just lay your fingers on a chord and it starts to get louder. Bloom? Blossom? I always thought this was a product of playing loud, some interaction between the speakers and the pickups, but I tried my friends setup and pedal(can't remember what it was) and the notes were just jumpin' out even at low low volumes.

Know what I mean? You hit a chord and it goes:

Whaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnneeeeeeeeeeeee

I don't get to crank the volume often. Any suggestions for preamps that really bring this out? I can't seem to get my build to give it up.

The Tweed Overdrive Special & Tweed BluezMeister will do that. I hear that expression used most frequently with Dumble circuits.  Geezer has a modded HoSo56 design that will do the same thing.
Trainwreck amps will do that from what I understand.

If you want that blooming feature on a cathode biased amp at lower volumes, the VVR helps alot.

With respect, Tubenit
